The walls are coming down!

Today is a very exciting day for the Library.

The walls are coming down from the main Library to the link corridor which leads to our new Self-Service area in the Social Learning Zone. This is the area where the issue desk was formerly and will now be a seating area and the walk way to the Self-Service area and Social Learning Zone.
In the new Self-Service area will be the Library Enquiry Desk, the Information Desk, the new Self-Service machines for issuing and returning books. There will also be photocopiers and printing facilities in this area.

The area officially opens on Wednesday, come and visit us then!

Social Learning Zone – Construction Update Pictures

We have just received a number of pictures from our Estates department showing the continuing progress with the SLZ over the month of July. We have also included a few pictures of the construction work taking place on floor T5 of Eagle Tower which is soon to be the new home of Photography, Video and Graphics.

Our Networks team have set up a webcam pointing directly into the Social Learning Zone from the current Library Issue Desk. Click the link below to view live pictures of any construction activity taking place.

Construction within the SLZ

Here are some pictures of the construction work that has taken place within the new Social Learning Zone during May.

A crane was brought on site to lift into place new roof sections for the former Textile Hall.

The steel work that will support the mezzanine level is now in place. The mezzanine level will eventually house the new Eagle365 computer suite and the Students Union.

 

The image below shows the area that will eventually form the new entrance to the Library. This is where the Library Enquiry Desk and the Information Desk will be sited along with brand new self service facilities. The big hole that can see in the back wall, will be where the link corridor will be constructed to join the entrance area to the existing Library.
